Reference imagery, not location claims Last updated October 2026
01 Photographic plates

These photographs are reference imagery composited into the flight and the two windows. Airport names and codes in the experience are part of the story; they are not a claim that every frame was photographed at that airport.

Photographic reference for the Scene A dusk window; re-graded and composited behind the 3D glazing.

Night-airport reference used for Scene B's window backdrop; it is not labelled as Bao'an. The flight itself is modelled 3D geometry.

03 Rooms & windows

The two 3D rooms — the San Francisco studio and the Shenzhen NPI bench — were modelled, lit, rendered and assembled for this site. The geometry, set dressing, lighting, screen surfaces, paper props, maps and UI are original. Some environment textures, HDRIs and models are CC0 assets from Poly Haven (including the dusk and night sky HDRIs).

Aircraft — the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 models are from amvlab/aircraft-models, licensed CC BY 4.0. They are used unmodified apart from scaling, instancing, material emission and scene placement; both are the logo-free variants.

Hiking map — the Mount Tamalpais topographic map in the studio is a static mosaic of OpenTopoMap tiles, licensed CC BY-SA 3.0, with map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. Cropped and color-graded for the scene.

Scene A window — the room render /scene/a-hero.webp and the live window backdrop are derived from the SFO dusk photograph by wbaiv above: a keyed, re-graded distant skyline over a generated dusk sky. The skyline is a photographic backdrop; the aircraft, approach paths and airport lights are live 3D.

Scene B window — the room render /scene/b-hero.webp and the live window backdrop are derived from the Bao'an runway photograph by LN9267 above: cropped and day-for-night graded, with the terminal, tower, floodlights and runway lights built in 3D.

Screen interfaces — the EDA and factory displays are original HTML/CSS/SVG compositions built for the two rooms; no pixels from the reference products are embedded. Layout and information hierarchy were studied from the KiCad 9 PCB Editor documentation (docs.kicad.org, CC BY 3.0+), the FreeCAD screenshot gallery (wiki.freecad.org, CC BY 3.0), and the public product pages for Siemens Valor DFM, Yamaha iFactory and Aegis FactoryLogix (reference only, not redistributed). A CC0 Wikimedia Commons PCB photograph (Revox B215 Dolby board, CC0) informed the board texture; the rendered boards are procedural.

The legacy fallback plates under /public/plates/ are renders of the same rooms and draw on the same two window sources.

04 Audio

The two room beds, the quiet radio bed and the flight cues are CC0 samples from Freesound, edited and looped for this site. CC0 does not require attribution; the sources are credited here anyway.

Type — the site uses Instrument Serif, Instrument Sans, JetBrains Mono, Fredoka, Nunito and Space Mono, all under the SIL Open Font License. Type placement and the interface are original.

Code and 3D — the Astro site, React/Three.js engine, Blender scenes and all interface copy were made for this project. The flight sequence and camera moves are original work.
